I was born and raised near Detroit, Michigan, studied forestry and genetics in college, and then taught biology at Southern Oregon University until my retirement in 2021. Recently, I have retired from teaching mosaic workshops so that I may find more time to make mosaics. Paintings by Van Gogh, Renoir and Monet have and continue to inform and inspire me to create art. My works have received world-wide acclaim among mosaic circles and won awards in competitions with other art mediums. I have found success by mosaicking according to my intuition and resources -- rather than following and then deviating from the styles and rules for rendering mosaics by the ancients.
