Mosaic Mum

I am Sarah Bourne a.k.a. Mosaic Mum - a practicing artist and teacher. I love all things retro and hunt for vintage objects and ceramics, with the aim of making something beautiful from something broken and discarded. I am particularly drawn to the bright colours and patterns on crockery from the mid century modern design era - I have a huge collection of bone china and porcelain from this period that I use, although some pieces are too beautiful to break up, so I keep them for inspiration. I love to re-use time-worn objects and give them a new lease of life by creating contemporary sculptures with a nostalgic twist. The mosaic shapes and forms are organic and evolve from the patterns, colours and textures in the ceramics, resulting in a mosaic sculpture that will brighten up any home or garden! I run beginners mosaic workshops from my studio in Sundridge, on the Chevening Estate near Sevenoaks, Kent, for both adults and children. My most popular workshop 'Make a vintage mosaic in a day' is for all age groups. Please get in touch to book a day to suit you or a 1-2-1 session for help with more involved projects and master classes. Many of the sculptures I create are made to commission from clients who want something original and colourful to enhance their home or garden. More recently, my clients are coming to me with broken pieces of precious china that they would like made into something they can still treasure, despite the ceramic object being broken. I am often asked to incorporate special crockery in to the art work, resulting in a more meaningful piece that is personal to the client.
