I teach every Friday from a studio based on a farm in Wimbish Essex, (at this time paused until October 2020).
The Magic of Mosaic is a comprehensive online course, mosaic is so absorbing, being creative can push all your troubles to one side for a time. There is a lot of advice out there, but it's helpful, I find, to have it all in one place.
This course is a fully comprehensive overview of everything you need to know about the ancient and addictive art of making mosaics and there are specific projects to follow as well. At first just watch, if you would like to have a go, order materials later. (There are notes about this within the courses.)
Learn the techniques in easy steps and work at your own pace in your own space. - it is just £15 to pay for the hosting of the course.
I have 2 other courses, A Garden Ornament, £25, my signature creation - garden ornaments used to create colour in the garden all year round - Mosaics are magical in the garden - they sparkle in rain and glint in sunshine and provide colour all the year around. These mosaic balls look grand mounted alongside blooms or intrigue peeping out from the undergrowth - and they float, making them perfect for water features!
Watch and enjoy a 25 minute demo of making the mosaic balls, - no need to line up your materials at this stage. A few tips and you'll be sticking your ball ornaments in no time.
Guidance is provided on shaping and placing the tiles, creating a keystone, which is the foundation of much mosaic work. Shaping your tiles is essential to accommodate the spherical shape of a ball (but don't forget there are also designs that do not require any cutting at all).
Making Pots and Pictures, £55 using china and tiles combined - recycle that saucer! These are really great starter projects for new makers and they are quick to complete with no great financial outlay. It includes a several easily achievable designs ideas for small, easy to source, terracotta pots - perhaps there is something suitable to cover at home already, an empty tin can or perhaps an old vase or container from the thrift store. These projects also make great and inexpensive gifts, with genuine heart! There is also a whole section of general teaching, cutting, sticking, laying tiles, all about materials, tools and grouting.
If you break something precious or sentimental, don't throw it away - use the parts to make a useful and attractive mosaic to be treasured.
All courses are accessible and fully described with video previews on my website www.annecardwell.co.uk
